We have a great opportunity for an Automation Engineer Manager to join our Engineering Team! Farrel Pomini is a global leader in the research, design and manufacturing of continuous mixing systems for the polymer processing industry. We are conveniently located in a new facility off Route 8 in Ansonia, CT. Farrel Pomini is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer Manager to lead and manage our Automation Department.

The Automation Engineering Manager will be responsible for directing and coordinating all activities associated with the Automation Engineering department. This position will plan, organize, control, and integrate the completion of all automation and machinery controls projects, either by supervision of direct reports or by performing these duties directly.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

• Evaluate sales order requirements and insures conformance of electrical and control system designs to the requirements.
• Collects and reviews data for machine design requirements, electric motor and Variable Speed Drive power requirements, and wiring of electromagnetic and PLC based control panels, Motor Control Centers (MCC) etc.
• Research new instrumentation, evaluate and test control panels for compliance to specification at Company and customer locations.
• Design and evaluate electro-mechanical machineries as per international safety standards and machine directive (OSHA, 2006/42/EC, ISO).
• Prepare electrical control and instrumentation specification sheets and assist purchasing personnel with technical procurement as required.
• Ensure quality of mechanical designs and purchased components/systems by developing and documenting test plans.
• Confer with suppliers on design details, costs, and schedules of purchased products; evaluating supplier parts/systems
• In designing machine controls, must program PLCs of known vendors such as Allen Bradley, Siemens and HMI/SCADA systems such as Wonderware, PanelView and other similar devices to properly operate, monitor, and make safe the operation of our machinery.
• The job requires domestic and international travel to customer sites worldwide. International experience in electrical/controls design requirements would be beneficial. Occasionally will work independently at customer’s facility to assist and advice during installation and start up.
• May be required to instruct and train servicemen and other personnel in the installations, operation and troubleshooting of controls.
• Responsible for installation and operation of completed panels and system in compliance with specifications and safety standards.
• Must be able to properly plan engineering workload, delegate work, and ensure timely completion of all software and automation related projects.
• Test and troubleshoot machinery control systems.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor or Master’s Degree (M.S./ BSEE) with emphasis on Electrical, Electrical Power Control, Electrical Drives and Advanced Control Systems.
• Preferred at least 8 years experience in machinery automation systems.
• Management experience of projects and technical teams required.
• Experience in designing/testing industrial automation and control systems including PID and other control methodologies.
• The ideal candidate will be an expert in one or more of the following PLC and/or HMI systems – Rockwell Allen Bradley (ControlLogix/CompactLogix), Siemens, Wonderware, WinCC, Panelview Plus and will have hands-on programming experience
• Experience with industry standard communication protocols like Modbus, DeviceNet, Ethernet IP, ControlNet, Profibus, ProfiNet

Customer Service Representative

Farrel Corporation has a great opportunity for a Customer Service Representative in our Parts/Sales Department. The CSD Rep will be responsible for processing orders for machine parts or service received by customers and coordinating cost estimates to be used in the generation of sales quotes.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

• Prepares cost estimates for equipment and services for approval by management.
• Reviews orders for price, part number specifications and commercial issues.
• Informs customer of prices, shipping date, anticipated delays, and any additional relevant information.
• Use of SAP system for orders, quotes, and checking lead time.
• Checks with inventory control regarding stock availability where appropriate.
• Manages and follows up on orders to ensure delivery by specified dates. Updates customer as necessary.
• Computes price, discount, commission, and shipping charges, as required in quoting or entering an order.
• Receives and processes customer complaints as necessary.
• Communicates with production, sales, shipping, warehouse, or traffic to expedite or trace missing or delayed shipments.
• Compiles statistics and prepares various reports for management as necessary.

Ideal Experience:

• 3-5 years’ experience in Customer Service. 4-yr degree from a university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with SAP.
• Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical drawings. Some experience in a manufacturing or technical environment

Field Service Technician

Farrel Pomini is looking for a Field Service Technician. The Field Service Technician provides professional service and support to customers by performing field service. This includes machine installation, startup, training end users, repairs, remote assistance, preventative maintenance and production support when not traveling.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Install new equipment at customer facility, ensuring all components and assemblies are properly integrated
• Work from drawings, engineering data, assembly and operating instructions
• Direct, instruct and advise customer personnel as to methods, schedules, safety practices or other matters affecting assembly, operation and servicing of equipment.
• On site trouble shooting and repair
• Prepare service reports documenting job duties performed
• Identify and coordinate parts required for repair with customer service department
• Travel to worldwide customer sites
• Suggest and recommend corrective actions
• Work in assembly shop to assist production when not traveling to client sites as required
• Follow Standard safety regulations and maintain a clean work area
• Present customer training seminars on equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Perform other and related duties as assigned, directed or within the scope of overall responsibilities

Qualifications and Skills:

• Advanced mechanical skills
• Must have experience in handling heavy machinery, parts and components
• Electrical Engineering experience is desirable
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and machine specifications
• Ability to creatively and independently troubleshoot and solve technical problems
• Proficiency with PC, Microsoft Word, Excel
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and with others

This position involves substantial world-wide travel. Candidates must not have travel restrictions as the position requires travel on short notice. Due to the requirements of onsite visits to customer sites, this position also requires participation in random drug testing program.

Inventory Control Analyst

FARREL POMINI is looking for an Inventory Control Analyst who will be responsible for compiling records concerned with ordering, stock material and equipment and all tasks involving inventory levels, work orders and BCN implementation.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

• Creates walkthrough lists and leads the walkthroughs for new assembly and rebuilds
• Maintains ongoing review of inventory control records to ensure accuracy
• Manages staging schedule for new assembles and rebuilds
• Monitor engineering change notices and reviews effect on inventory and purchasing actions
• Processes bills on material change notices including allocations, requisition generation, part changes and requirements
• Coordinates preparation of yearly physical inventory audit
• Responsible for inventory returns, cycle counting and reconciliation
• Performs other job duties as assigned

Required Experience:

• Minimum three years of relevant experience
• SAP knowledge required
• Minimum three years of Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Product Engineer - Mid Level

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

• Under the general direction of the immediate supervisor, prepare the following requirements for a complete project: Bills-Of-Material, customer drawings, detail drawings, manuals, subassembly drawings, vendor specifications, assembly drawings.
• Work from engineering and functional specifications, direction, sketches, or suggestions of superior as to principle features of specific project assignment.
• May be required to work independently at a customer’s facility to assist and advise during the installation and startup of Farrel equipment.

• Prepare design sketches on major products and equipment. Prepare related preliminary layout, detail, and assembly drawings prior to checking.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering;
• At least 3 years working as a Product Engineer or similar engineering role.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of major polymer processing projects as assigned by the Project Engineering Manager.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

• Perform a wide variety of project duties primarily involving design of complete processing lines and plants, but also including modification, adaptation, or changes in previous design, changes in equipment options or requirements, and modernization or standardization of designs
• Review customer orders, prescribe correct application and prepare engineering instructions and specifications for manufacture or purchase, and prepare or direct any special designs, drawings, Bills-Of-Material and certifications to meet customer requirements
• Review or participate with project engineering manager in the development of engineering estimated hours for design projects and is responsible for completing a project within estimated engineering hours and material costs.
• Utilize sketches and data submitted to formulate and visualize original design concepts, calculate and check specifications, establish acceptable tolerances and dimensions not specified to determine requirements as to capacities, operating requirements, material selections, and type and method of construction
• Develop and recommend new applications required for adequate functioning of new and redesigned process lines and plants
• Make, or direct the making of, complete and complex plant, layout, and installation drawings using considerable judgment in the selection of views
• When necessary, visit customer sites to secure additional information and participate in discussions relating to various phases of specifying Company and other equipment
• Prepare all drawings and documentation for comprehensive instruction manuals for each project
• Work closely with peers to resolve technical problems, improve quality, operating performance and reliability and reduce project costs

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering related field
• Minimum of years of relative engineering experience
• AutoCad and Revit experience a plus
